Manifesto

Shortcut is a design studio based in Mexico City working as full-stack partners on product, brand, and the engineering that makes both real.

/the-story

Shortcut was founded in late 2023 in Mexico City by Jay López, Fabian Luna, and Omar Tosca. The three of us had been shipping together for nearly a decade by then.

We met at 23 Design, the studio Fabian co-founded in 2015 and that Jay and Omar joined in its first year. Over five years there, we helped build some of the most-used digital products in Latin America, working with companies like Bitso, Albo, Luuna, and Pictoline, alongside name-brand US venture firms like 500 Startups, Village Global, and Innovation Endeavors. In 2020, frog acquired 23 Design and used it as the foundation for its first Latin American studio. We stayed on to help build that out, then in 2023 left to start Shortcut on our own terms.

Across those years, the same client problem came up again and again: senior design help was hard to find and slow to hire. Shortcut is the team they were trying to hire.

/beliefs
/01

Craft and taste are the filter.

We use every tool available to us, but the work has to pass a trained eye before it ships.

/02

Grounded intuition is a real method.

Years of shipping teach you what works before the data does.

/03

User delight beats methodological perfection.

Process is how you get there, not the point.

/04

We're not gatekeepers.

Whoever has the answer, on our team or yours, should have the floor.

/05

We trust people.

We trust people to do their work the way they work best. Everyone here is senior; no one needs babysitting.

/team

Three full-time designers and a bench of trusted freelancers we've worked with for years. Everyone is senior, so no one is learning on your project.
