A new kind of hackathon, RBR is a community effort powered by 500 startups, the most active early-stage VC in the world.
Release Before Ready is a 12-hour gathering where developers, designers, and builders come together to code without limits—to experiment, learn, and discuss emerging technologies in a space that encourages creativity over perfection.
But there was a problem.
Most hackathons look the same: generic graphics, safe typography, and visual identities that feel like they were assembled in an afternoon. The design is an afterthought—clipart robots, neon gradients, and Comic Sans masquerading as "fun."
RBR deserved better. It needed a brand that matched the boldness of its philosophy: ship it before it's perfect, iterate in public, and embrace the creative chaos of building something new.
The Outcome
Release Before Ready now has a visual identity that reflects the creativity and ambition of its community. It's a brand that celebrates experimentation, rewards velocity, and proves that good design and speed aren't enemies—they're collaborators.
The system included event materials (t-shirts, lanyards, banners), digital assets, and a flexible identity that adapts as the event evolves. More importantly, it signals to participants that this isn't just another hackathon—it's a space where craft matters, even when shipping fast.
RBR has found its voice. And it doesn't sound like anyone else.
